Lance and I were frequent campers in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. It was a favorite past time of ours before we had kids. We would drive through the canyon until we found a great, out of the way spot. We would then set up camp and explore the mountains.
When we moved to Florida, we left all of our camping gear behind. We were determined not to debase the idea of true camping by "Florida camping"-- paying to stay at a designated camp site with running water, electricity, bathrooms, and no mountains to speak of. That's right-- we are camping snobs.
We received some camping gear for Christmas this year and decided it was time break down and introduce our kids to the great outdoors. So, we did this by staying in our own backyard :)
It was SO much fun! The kids were ecstatic. They loved looking at the moon and stars, playing with flashlights, and sleeping with Mom and Dad and the dogs.
Zoie fell asleep holding on to Lance. Meanwhile, I hung out with Bluto in the other end of the tent. (Think I got the short end of the stick there...)
We can't wait to go camping again-- maybe this time we will venture out of the neighborhood. Designated camp sites, here we come!!

You? A camping snob? I don't remember this at all. Slovaceks don't camp WITHOUT electricity, bathrooms, running water, etc!
The kids look cute.
There are some amazing places to camp in Florida- small islands only accessible by ferry, natural springs, etc. It will be different than Utah, but I think you will like it! And just because they have running water and bathrooms doesn't mean you have to use them!
You come from a long line of camping snobs, Kira. The Hilton I try to avoid. Radissons are pretty good. But there are some places I just won't sleep.
Ahhh..that reminds me of those camping trips freshman year that would start at two in the morning and somehow we just couldn't make it to school in the morning!
